Sportingfields & Pride “Morty” had fascinated us ever since his arrival in Denmark in 2012, so when we were given the opportunity to bring him home from Gawain Border Collies in 2015, when he was four years old, the decision did not take us very long. Soon afterwards, we were on our way to Denmark to bring him home.

We were initially a little worried about how an adult dog would cope with such a major change, but Morty settled into his new life surprisingly quickly. He soon learned our language too — although he occasionally liked to pretend he did not understand whenever there was a chance to avoid some unnecessary extra effort.

Morty brought very interesting bloodlines into our breeding programme. Although we have not yet had a litter directly by him at Winyela, he proved himself as a sire in several other kennels, and his descendants have since become an important part of European Border Collie breeding. We are incredibly proud to see his influence continuing through the generations.

Sadly, Morty left us far too soon at only ten and a half years of age. His loss affected us deeply, but we will always be grateful for the years we were fortunate enough to share with this very special dog and for the legacy he left behind.
